150th Years Anniversary: Continuing Legacy of Sending Missionaries

In 1874, the Seventh-day Adventist Church sent out its first missionary, John Nevin Andrews, to Switzerland. Andrews was a scholar, writer, and church leader who dedicated his life to advancing the gospel. His mission to Europe marked the beginning of a movement that would spread the message of hope and salvation across the globe. Now, 150 years later, we pause to celebrate this milestone, reflecting on a legacy of faith, dedication, and service that has touched countless lives and brought the light of the gospel to the farthest corners of the earth.

Why This Celebration Matters
The 150th anniversary of Adventist missionary work is not just a historical commemoration; it is a powerful reminder of our calling as a church. For a century and a half, men and women have left their homes, often at great personal sacrifice, to share the love of Jesus in diverse cultures and challenging environments. This celebration honors their courage, commitment, and the countless lives transformed through their ministry.

In the Southern Asia-Pacific Division, where the mission field is vast and diverse, this anniversary holds special significance. Our region, situated within the 10/40 window, is home to millions who have yet to hear the gospel message. The work of missionaries, past and present, in this area has been vital in spreading the word of God, and it continues to be a beacon of hope for those seeking truth.

Commemorating and Empowering
As we commemorate this significant milestone, the Southern Asia-Pacific Division is not just looking back; we are looking forward. This celebration is an opportunity to inspire and empower the current generation to carry on the missionary spirit. We recognize that the world has changed, and so have the challenges of mission work. Yet, the need for dedicated missionaries is as critical today as it was 150 years ago.

Our commemoration will include a series of events, resources, and stories that highlight the history and impact of Adventist missionaries. But more importantly, it will serve as a call to action for all Adventists, young and old, to get involved in mission work. Whether it’s through traditional means or by leveraging modern technology, everyone can play a part in sharing the gospel.

We invite you to explore this special section of our website, where you will find inspiring stories from past and present missionaries, resources to help you get involved, and information on upcoming events. Together, let’s honor the legacy of those who have gone before us and commit ourselves to the ongoing mission of sharing the love of Jesus with the world.
