North Philippines braces once again for yet another wrath of nature as Tropical storm Florita continues to intensify since its first landfall in Maconacon, Isabela, 10:30 am, August 23, 2022. According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Florita is moving northwestward at 20 kilometers per hour (kph) with maximum sustained winds of 95 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 150 kph.

Heavy rains is expected in the provinces of Cagayan, Isabela, Tuguegarao, the Ilocos Region, the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Zambales and Bataan. Storm signals were also raised in several provinces in Central Luzon and CALABARZON.

Local government agencies alert communities living in low-lying areas, particularly those living near the Cagayan River. In recent years, major flooding has happened in the Cagayan River once the major provincial dam releases water. Cagayan River is a catch basin where flood water from other provinces goes resulting in immense flooding. 

Adventist Development and Relief Agency in the Philippines are up and ready for any circumstances that may occur and has already coordinated with government units to help assist families who might get affected by the typhoon. 

The Cagayan Valley region is home to more than three million people, 31,000 of which are Adventist communities serving in more than 170 churches.
