The gospel work in Siem Reap, which began in 1995, steadily progressed despite the difficulties of establishing an Adventist presence in a country within the 10/40 window. Although it took time to officially organize a church, the journey unfolded in God’s perfect timing. On August 31, 2024, the local church community reached a historic milestone by becoming a fully functioning congregation. This accomplishment, made possible by the dedication of various leaders and committed members, represents a significant breakthrough in advancing the mission in this challenging region.

The church consists of 58 members, excluding children, marking a significant achievement in its development. Under the leadership of Pastor Hang Dara, president of the Adventist Church in Cambodia (CAM), the official organizing program was successfully conducted, with church officers elected to serve the growing congregation.

The members of the church expressed overwhelming joy and gratitude, having long anticipated this occasion. Over 100 members and guests from various parts of Siem Reap province gathered to celebrate this milestone. Their dedication and perseverance have borne fruit, paving the way for continued spiritual growth and a lasting impact in Siem Reap city and across the province.

By the end of 2023, Cambodia had over 4,880 Adventist members nationwide, with nine established churches and 33 companies. The organization of the Siem Reap church strengthens the Adventist presence, not only in a predominantly Buddhist city but also among millions of tourists who visit one of the world’s most renowned landmarks—Angkor Wat. Known for its grand temples and ancient pagodas, Angkor Wat draws visitors from across the globe, positioning the Adventist Church in a unique space to build relationships with both locals and tourists.

According to recent data, Siem Reap received 2.5 million domestic and international tourists in 2023, with over 480,000 arriving through its international airport. In just the first half of 2024, 310,000 tourists arrived by air alone, excluding those who traveled by land. Seyha Penn, an Adventist layman, has been one of the active members in Siem Reap, using the incursion of tourism as a unique opportunity to share the gospel. He has invited both locals and tourists to fellowship at the Siem Reap church, making a meaningful connection with the diverse individuals who visit the city. "It's really important for us to have an Adventist presence in Siem Reap. First, it helps our church members understand their responsibility to the community. And second, it shows the community that God is with them, turning the church into a source of blessings, healing, and hope for everyone around," Seyha said.

CAM has plans to officially organize additional worship groups into churches within this year. These groups will further support the spiritual growth and worship experience of congregations, enhancing the overall church community. The initiative aims to create more opportunities for worship and fellowship in various locations across Cambodia, strengthening the Adventist presence and outreach in the region.
