Myanmar is a nation of 55 million people. The Adventist population is Myanmar is 42,581. There are five mission territories in Myanmar Union Mission of Adventists. The five missions are Ayeyarwady Mission, Central Myanmar Mission, South East Mission, upper Myanmar Mission and Yangon Mission.
God has worked through His church in Myanmar in various ways. We have answered the Call of God saying “I will go” to the initiatives of Back to the Altar, Total Member Involvement, Integrated Evangelism Lifestyle, Nurturing, Discipling and Retention, in order to call all people to be the disciples of Jesus, to proclaim the Everlasting Gospel embraced by the three angel messages and to prepare the way for the soon return of Jesus Christ. We have encouraged that each one-reach one for Christ.
We thank the Lord for what He has done through the leaders and members of His Church in Myanmar. Inflation, civil war, and natural disasters in Myanmar have put people in difficult situations. The challenges bring the leaders and the members together on their knees at the Altar. Back to the Altar Initiatives give leaders and members unity, enthusiasm, and power to face the challenges with more involvements. God at the Altar is the source of our strength, perseverance, enthusiasm and success.
The leaders encourage and support the all out efforts of all the departments of the church to nurture, retain and disciple the members for the active, ongoing, culture changing, disciple-disciple making evangelism in every Adventist church in Myanmar. With the decision of Myanmar Union Mission Executive Committee, the leaders encourage every church to become a training center, and a church planting church. With the initiatives taken by leaders of all the departments, members received different trainings of all the departments including training in global total member involvement and disciple making evangelism in preparation for the Myanmar Union-wide harvest 2025 Evangelistic Campaign.
Free medical care given by the medical missionaries of the Health Department brought many people closer to God. CHPTC, community Health Promoter Training Course, offered by the center of the Health Department in Yangon which is recognized by the government has become the platform for sharing the truth with students of others faith who later become Adventists every year.
There were moments of great rejoicing when YAS, Yangon Adventist Seminary became YASIS, Yangon Adventist Seminary International School recognized by the government, and when Hope Channel & AWR Studio in MYUM was inaugurated.
We rejoiced when the training center and the center of influence were inaugurated in Central Myanmar Mission and Ayeyarwady Mission. We rejoiced as the Sabbath School & Personal Ministry Department has successfully launched the weekly Sabbath School Panel Discussion via On-line. This program has become a great blessing for the church members and the people who are interested to study the word of God.
In Central Myanmar Mission territory, the leaders and members socialize with the community people, sympathize with them, serve them and save them to win their confidence and trust with the support of ADRA and ASAP as they put efforts to bring relief and personal development for the people in the communities.
Churches are making differences in their communities in Upper Myanmar Mission as leaders and members work together to meet the needs of people. They reach the community people with good works and good news.
In South East Mission, churches are impacting their communities as leaders and members have taken challenges for the churches to be missional churches that wholistically transform the communities, restore people physical, mentally, socially, and spiritually.
Leaders and members of Yangon Mission promote and encourage every church to be a change agent. Hlaing Thar Yar – this previously unentered place in Yangon Mission – will now have the Seventh-day Adventist Church as the beacon of light.
It is the working of the Holy Spirit in Ayeyarwady Mission that many precious souls were (450) baptized. The wife and the daughter of a Buddhist monk became Adventists during the Evangelistic Campaign led by Pr. Robert Dulay, the Division AWR director and Pr. Teint Saung, the Myanmar Union Mission Communication Director. This is the glimpse of the wonderful thing the Lord has done for Ayeyarwady Mission.
Motivation of leaders and members for their active involvements come from the existing problems and challenges of the communities that they are aware of, the solutions offered by the leadership of the church and the testimonies shared by the overcomers of the challenges.
The business of soul winning is taken seriously in all the five missions in Myanmar Union Mission of Adventist by leaders and members. Church members, reaching out to their friends and neighbors offering Bible Studies before the public evangelistic meetings are held in churches. Despite the challenges, new church buildings were dedicated in all the five missions.
Many more churches and training centers are still under-construction and very soon they will also be dedicated and inaugurated. It is the working of the Holy Spirit that moves the hearts of Government Official that they have given the permit to build the Life Hope Center of Influence at the Headquarters of Myanmar Union Mission of Adventists.
Yangon Central Church located in the compound of Myanmar Union Mission Headquarters has become a model church that encourages all the Adventist Churches in Myanmar Union Mission to be missional Churches that reach out for the communities where they are located.
Everything has been possible because of God’s wonderful leading. At this juncture, we ascribe praises to God’s Holy Name. “To God be all the Glory.” Amen!
