When Fear Rises Up

TRUTH
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed,
for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9 ESV
TALK TO GOD
Lord, too often I let fear get the better of me when it comes to my marriage. Fear makes me insecure in my husband’s love. Fear makes me rise up against my husband’s suggestions. Fear keeps me from receiving valuable feedback from my husband. I know fear is one of the things the enemy uses to stop me from moving forward in growth, so help me push through it. If the fear I am experiencing is a form of self-protection left over from my childhood that I no longer need, help me to recognize it and let it go. Too often my fear feels bigger than You, Lord, and I know this is not true. Help me to be strong and courageous. Give me the courage to ask for what I need. Give me the courage to have important conversations with my husband when they are needed. Give me the courage to trust You to protect me. Give me the courage to grow in the ways You want me to grow. In Jesus’ name, amen.
THINK
When it comes to your marriage, in what situations does fear most often rise up inside you? How can you overcome this fear with faith?
TAKE ACTION
The next time you feel fear rising up inside you, focus on courage instead. Read Book of Joshua 1:9 and ask yourself, “What do I need the courage to do right now?”
