TRUTH
“And do not be grieved, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”
Nehemiah 8:10 ESV

TALK TO GOD
Lord, too often my emotions are determined by my circumstances. Sometimes my emotions are even determined by my husband’s emotions. I must learn how to find my joy and steadiness in You and You alone. Help me to say to myself, “These are my circumstances, but this is my truth,” and then be led by Your Word. I want Your truth to guide me toward Your perspective, which is the seed of joy. I pray this for my husband as well. Instead of lashing out at each other in frustration, we need to turn to You, Lord. Instead of saying things we regret, I want us both to practice self-control. Instead of feeling like we’re not enough, I want us to find our value in You. May Your truth and Your joy be our anchor when the waves of frustration threaten to overpower us and our marriage. In Jesus’ name, amen.

THINK
Meditate on the words, “The joy of the Lord is my strength.” Say them over and over, use different words, and pray these words to God until your soul is centered on this truth.

TAKE ACTION
When you’re feeling upset and overly emotional, take three deep breaths in and out to calm your body. Silently take a moment to pray the words, “Lord, my joy in You is my strength.”
