TRUTH
Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted. The troubles of my heart are enlarged; bring me out of my distresses.
Psalm 25:16-17 ESV
TALK TO GOD
Lord, sometimes marriage feels lonely. I have felt that way, and I am sure my husband has felt that way too. Today, I pray that You would make me more sensitive to my husband’s need for companionship. When he wants to do something that does not exactly thrill me, help me say yes, because even if I am not excited about the activity, I want to make it easy for him to invite me into his world. I do not want to discourage him from asking. And when I am feeling lonely, help me remember that You are always with me and that I am never truly alone. When I am tempted to put up a wall to protect myself, give me the strength to tear it down. Then help me find ways to connect with my husband so we can be united and understand each other better. In Jesus’ name, amen.
THINK
When you feel lonely, do you complain, criticize, hint, or make comments rather than make a kind and specific request to connect? This week, pay attention to any complaining, criticizing, hinting, or commenting you are tempted to do, and identify the request you could make instead.
TAKE ACTION
Put a date on the calendar sometime within the next few months for you and your husband to spend the day together doing something you both enjoy. Clear your schedules, and if you have children, make childcare arrangements now.
